A recent survey of corporate clients showed that most responders plan to travel between now and March 2022. Nearly 50 per cent plan to travel in 2021 and nearly 30 per cent between January and March 2022.

Over 95 per cent of these clients agree with the statement that ‘business travel is important to meet company objectives’ and that attracting and onboarding new business had been the area most impacted by travel restrictions.

Over the past 2 months, we have seen bookings double compared to the same period last year.

The lifting of the US travel bans now means that the US now tops the list of destinations for business travel.

The survey also shows that, earlier in the year, the risk of Covid-19 infection was the number one concern when booking business travel. Now, the most important consideration for business travellers is to have an expert on hand to help guide them through the additional complexities of travel, 24/7 assistance and well as us helping them manage and control costs.

So, the likelihood is, if you are not already back travelling you will be by the Spring. Now is the time to perhaps look at your travel policies and especially your insurance cover. Traveling in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic has become a bit more uncertain since you do not know what additional expenses might come with COVID treatment or hospitalization.

Having COVID travel insurance is a necessity and in some countries one of the entry requirements!

If your flight is cancelled for Covid related reasons such as a country being placed on the red list, then you will obviously be entitled to a refund from the airline. However, you may not be covered for your accommodation costs and you will not be entitled to a refund if you were to test positive and unable to travel. It is imperative to check your policies and make sure it has been updated to cover Covid. It is also important that it would cover you if you were to test positive whilst away and had to isolate for a period of time overseas with the additional costs that would incur. You can also look to see if it covers the cost of any medical treatment or even evacuation related to Covid. If you are unsure, please check with your insurance company as soon as possible. Many insurance companies offer a policy known as ‘Cancel for any reason’ and it may well be worth upgrading to such a policy if your current policy does not cover all unexpected events.
